On Saturday evening, FC Winterthur will host Grasshopper Club Zurich on the Schützenwiese, for the Zurich cantonal derby. The match will start at 8:30 p.m. and will be refereed by Sandro Schärer.

Can GC ride the positive wave sparked by their match in Bern? Thanks to their 1-0 victory at Young Boys, GC won their first away match in the Super League in 2024, after 13 games without a win (4 defeats, 9 draws). The last time Zurich won two consecutive CSSL away matches was in the 2017/18 season, when Murat Yakin was still their coach.

The two clubs do not like to leave each other in a draw. Starting with the memorable 6-0 victory in Winterthur (in the Challenge League, in August 2020 at Letzigrund), the last 12 Zurich cantonal derbies between FCW and GC have each had a winner. Surprise, Winterthur won 7 times and the “Sauterelles” only 5 times.

An exciting confrontation: Ognjen Zaric against Marco Schällibaum (35 years old against 62 years old): the duel of the youngest current coach against the oldest in the Super League. When Schällibaum first stood on the pitch as (interim) coach of FC Basel in 1999, Zaric was 10 years old.
