In Louvain-la-Neuve, a new Olympic swimming pool has been inaugurated: here is its special feature

This morning, a new swimming pool was inaugurated in Louvain-la-Neuve. It is the most modern in Brussels and Wallonia. This Olympic swimming pool has the particularity of consuming very little, thanks to a very special system.

At the Blocry sports complex, the new Olympic-sized pool seems to offer swimmers much better sensations than the old facilities.Very nice, we really don’t feel like we’re in Louvain-la-Neuve when we compare it with the two old swimming pools. It’s really a great swimming pool: 50 meters, nine lanes, it’s really great!“, “I came back, I didn’t smell at all that chlorine smell that you can perceive in other pools. And frankly, it’s nice because chlorine, I find that it attacks much more at the throat or nose level”swimmers explain.

In the depths of the pool, the water is collected, treated very finely, then reinjected into the pool using a reverse osmosis system. Marc Jeanmoye, director of the Blocry sports complex, explains: “Previously, there was not all this water recovery, both in terms of water and heat. So all the water that was used was directly discharged into the sewer.“.

These new installations should make it possible to use 62% renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 45%.These are much more modern techniques, less energy-intensive. It is a combination of photovoltaic panels, heat pumps and an insulation system that allows the energy required to be reduced as much as possible.”adds the director. Cost of the project? 20 million euros.

Open in particular to students, high-level athletes and clubs, the Blocry swimming pool should welcome 500,000 swimmers per year.
