As he comes to terms with his hockey career, of which he is now proud, Alexandre Daigle will be among those elected to the QMJHL Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Accompanied by Gilles Courteau, Patrice Bergeron, Maxime Talbot and the late Réginald Savage, Daigle will make his entrance into the Temple during a ceremony at the Théâtre Manuvie in Brossard.

“My father passed away a year and a half ago,” Daigle said in an interview with Québec Matin on Wednesday. “He would have liked to be here. It was a little bittersweet at first, but I still have three children, my wife and my mother. We’re going to enjoy it and have fun.”

Daigle, who made his debut in the QMJHL at the age of 16, delivered a plea for a Canadian university circuit worthy of the name, like that of the NCAA in the United States.

“There has to be a relationship with the university, the chances of playing in the NHL are so slim,” he recalled.

While Daigle has long been known as a “flop” since he was tipped to become hockey’s next superstar, he is now able to put things into perspective.

In recent months, he has emerged from the shadows and found his niche as an analyst at TVA Sports.

“Going into the media has given me a lot more confidence,” the former NHL first overall pick admitted. “I was looking at my career with more negative points of view. But overall, it’s been a great career.” [en fait]I played for a long time. I realized that I am no longer addressing guys of 45-50 years old. There is another generation below me who does not know me.”

Daigle will often be seen as an analyst on TVA Sports during the next season, the experience having proven very conclusive during the last playoffs.

“TVA Sports gave me a great opportunity and I’m taking advantage of it,” he said happily.
