France passes Spain again, Italy triumphs!
Descriptive text here

We now know the last four of the European competitions. Once is not customary, is in the spotlight this season with two more representatives present on the continental scene thanks to PSG, qualified at the expense of FC Barcelona in the Champions on Tuesday, and to OM who defeated Benfica in the Europa League last night. All this has repercussions at the level of the UEFA index. These good results allow France to move back ahead of Spain in this 2023/2024 season with 16,083 points against 15,312. The gap could even widen further since La Liga only has one team left in the form of Madrid.

It’s especially in the rearview mirror that you have to look. France outdistances its closest pursuer, the Netherlands, and further secures this famous 5th place, offering 4 clubs qualified for the Champions League (3 directly plus 1 in the play-offs). There are now 5,364 points between the two countries, which leaves a little margin for the future, especially since the good results of the 2019/2020 season (PSG in the C1 final and OL in the semi-final ) will disappear at the end of this exercise, de facto narrowing the gap with the Eredivisie. Getting a little head start is never a bad thing.

Italy will have 5 representatives in the Champions League, Germany is not far either

Make no mistake about it either. The big winner of this European week is indeed Italy. If there are no more Italian teams in the Champions League this season, there will be 5 on the starting line next year. With the qualifications yesterday of Atalanta and AS Roma against AC Milan in the Europa League, in addition to Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League, Italy is guaranteed to finish at least 2nd in this index ranking UEFA for this 2023/2023 financial year, and therefore validates a 5th ticket for the Big Ears Cup at the next school year, one more than in recent years. As a reminder, the new formula of 32 to 36 participants offers a new additional place to the first two countries having obtained the best results in the current edition.

Finally, Germany is also on track to obtain a 5th team in C1. So far neck and neck with England, there are still three German clubs present on the continental scene, notably with the qualification of Bayer Leverkusen ahead of West Ham in C3, and that of Bayern Munich over Arsenal in the Champions League . The representatives of the Bundesliga are on track to finish among the top two in the UEFA index this season, ahead of England who only have one qualified team left, Aston Villa in the Europa League, a competition which, in addition of this, earns slightly fewer points.
