Gironde. Steris will close its surgical equipment manufacturing site, 96 jobs affected

The electroencephalogram of his business had been too flat for too long. Its profitability, brain dead. This is why Steris SAS, the French subsidiary of the American multinational Steris (4.6 billion dollars in turnover, 16,000 employees and 200 sites worldwide), specializing in medical equipment, announces, after more than ten years of presence in Gironde, the closure of its operating theater equipment production site by March 2025.

“The production unit has not reached financial maturity”

“Despite our efforts and our investments, Steris’s market share in Europe and France is stagnating at around 5%,” said the management of Steris SAS in a press release published on May 7. A management which ensures that it has made efforts by diversifying and rationalizing its offer and optimizing its production tools.

“Despite this, the production unit dedicated to operating theaters has still not reached financial maturity,” notes the management team of the American group which decided, in 2010, to bring together several hitherto dispersed industrial activities in Haillan. between the suburbs of Orléans, the south of England and Switzerland.
