Top 14 – Aymeric Luc unstoppable, Jonny Gray impassable… The stats to remember from the second day of the championship

The second day of Top 14 was played last weekend. During the seven matches that took place, we saw an unstoppable Aymeric Luc against as well as an unbeatable Jonny Gray against despite the defeat of the UBB. Here are all the stats to remember from this second episode.

  • 18 races with the ball in hand: Ludlam, Luc and Willis like the leather

Legend has it that Lewis Ludlam, Aymeric Luc and Jack Willis like to sleep with a rugby ball next to them. As a result, these three men find it hard to do without the oval ball, even when they are on the pitch, wearing studs. With impressive activity, they are the ones who made the most runs with the leather between their fingers on this second day: 18!

It is not for nothing that they received very good marks from us at the end of their performances: 9 for Luke, 7 for Ludlam And 8 for Willis.

  • 23 out of 23: Gray impeccable in defense against Lou

UBB lost at the very last second against Lyon after a penalty from Léo Berdeu from more than forty meters. Nevertheless, the Girondins showed some good things and could have won the bet thanks to a try by Damian Penaud a few seconds before the kick from the Lyon opener.

In the good news department for -Bègles, we will note the 100% tackle of Jonny Gray. Starting for the first time at Gerland since his arrival in , the Scot wanted to remind observers of the player he is when his body leaves him alone. 23/23 in defense for the former Glasgow player. Not enough to bring back the four points of the victory but Gray has everything to be one of the strong links of the garnet pack in the future.

In total, four players reached the twenty tackle mark on the second day: Gray (23), Racingmen Dayimani and Rowlands (20 each) and ’ Vanverberghe (20).

Gray is credited with a 23 out of 23 tackle against Lyon.

  • 3 fouls committed: 11 players caught by the patrol

We know some who have been at the back of the room next to the radiator this week during the traditional video session. Last weekend, no fewer than 11 players were sanctioned three times during their weekly outing.

So as is often the case in the “indiscipline” category, we find pillars, not helped by the scrum sector: Castets (Stade français), Gogichashvili (Racing), Devaux (Usap), Japaridze (MHR) and Wardi ().

The other players are: Hemery (Clermont), Van Tonder and Montgaillard (Usap), Vunipola (MHR), Matavesi (Lyon) and Paul Boudehent (La Rochelle).

  • 15 Defenders Beaten: The Incredible Luc

Did you get the pun? It’s because Aymeric Luc plays in green and he was impossible to stop against Bayonne… In short, we’re not proud of it but we’re doing what we can. A bit like the Basque defenders against the fullback.

Player of this second meeting of the season, Aymeric Luc impressed the Hamlet for his first home game with his new club. In addition to his 18 runs with the ball, the winger left 15 Bayonnais on the flank, unable to stop him.

Only two of them have exceeded the 10 broken tackles mark: Luc (15) and winger Salesi Rayasi (12 in 9 races please!).

Salesi Rayasi is one of Vannes’ X factors, and proved it against Stade Français.

  • 2 balloons scratched: four thieves identified

Flying is forbidden on Earth, except when you are a rugby player and you do not put your hands on the ground before attacking the ball. You must also have the courage to resist the impact of golgoths who will do everything to clear you.

Four brave souls stood out with two balls scratched: Julien Marchand and Jack Willis (), Lucas Bachelier (Usap) and Leicester Fainga’anuku (). Well done gentlemen!

  • 46 tries scored: long live Super Rugby!

So what? Who said that it was only about kicking in the Top 14? Of course, the weather conditions are favorable to attack as it should be, but it is necessary to congratulate the championship teams for the game they produce.

46 tries scored on this second day! Attack lovers had a great time, while those in defense were a little less so. Four rugby players scored a double: Brad Weber (Stade français), Aymeric Luc and Thibault Daubagna (Pau) and Teddy Thomas (La Rochelle).
