After last week’s Champions League, the 24-25 new look Europa League campaign began on Wednesday. As for the French clubs, OGC Nice was held in check by the Basques of Real Sociedad (1-1) at the Allianz Arena.
This Thursday, it was the turn of Olympique Lyonnais to enter the competition in C3. A winning return to the European Cup for Les Gones who beat Olympiacos 2-0 at Groupama Stadium. In this new ranking of 36 teams, Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice occupy 8th and 23rd places respectively. Ajax Amsterdam is the first leader thanks to its big 4-0 victory at the expense of Besiktas. The top eight in the standings advance directly to the round of 16. Teams ranked between 9th and 24th place will compete in a play-off, while teams ranked higher than 24th place will be eliminated.
