Raki Kane announced his resignation from his position as Executive Secretary of the Commission for Evaluation, Support and Coordination of Startups in Senegal (Senegal Connect Startup), following the heated controversy sparked by the publication of his past political positions. In a letter addressed to the head of state, Raki Kane expressed his gratitude to the former President of the Republic Macky Sall for the trust placed and underlined the honor of having contributed to the development of entrepreneurship and innovation in Senegal.
Ms. Kane clarified that her decision was mainly intended to “put the Authority at ease” and to alleviate the position in which Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko found himself, following the public clarifications made by the latter concerning his statements. The resignation, according to the former Executive Secretary, is an act of responsibility in the face of the situation and a means of allowing the Authority to work in better conditions.
In his message, Raki Kane also underlined his pride in having contributed to the operationalization of the “STARTUP ACT” law, highlighting achievements such as the establishment of the startup registration and labeling platform. He thanked Commission employees for their commitment and contribution to the success of these initiatives.
