Resignation of Raki Kane: the head of Senegal Connect Startup leaves her position in a context of controversy

Raki Kane, Executive Secretary of the Commission for Evaluation, Support and Coordination of Startups in Senegal (Senegal Connect Startup), officially presented his resignation to the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

This departure follows sustained pressure from political activists who strongly criticized his past positions against PASTEF leader Ousmane Sonko.

In a letter addressed to the head of state, Raki Kane explained the reasons for his choice. “ Following the lively controversy sparked by the publication of my past political positions, pushing Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to undertake the difficult exercise of clarification, I made the decision, in all conscience and responsibility, to withdraw from this function “, she wrote.

Raki Kane stressed that her resignation was aimed at protecting the integrity of the authority she served and putting an end to a situation she described as “unenviable” for the government. She also took the opportunity to take stock of her mandate, particularly in the context of the implementation of the Startup Act.

Under his leadership, significant progress has been made, including the deployment of the startup registration and labeling platform, as well as the development of the regulatory framework for this flagship program.
