Mossad chief David Barnea is expected to travel to Doha on Monday to participate in prisoner exchange negotiations with Palestinian factions, Israeli public broadcaster KAN reported on Sunday.

Quoting sources on condition of anonymity, KAN said: “Barnea will travel to Doha on Monday to participate in negotiations on the exchange agreement” of prisoners.

Israeli Channel 12 television also reported Barnea’s planned visit to Doha. Citing Israeli officials, the outlet noted significant progress in the negotiations, but said it was still too early to declare the deal finalized.

On Friday, the Israeli delegation returned to Doha to resume indirect negotiations with Hamas, mediated by Qatar and Egypt.

Families of Israeli prisoners held in the Gaza Strip have urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to grant the delegation all necessary authority to finalize the prisoner exchange agreement.

On Friday, Hamas announced the resumption of indirect negotiations with Israel in the Qatari capital, Doha, focusing on a ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip and the return of Palestinian civilians. displaced.

Mediation efforts led by the United States, Egypt and Qatar to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza have so far stumbled over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to end the war.

Israel holds more than 10,300 Palestinian prisoners in its jails, while Hamas reportedly holds around 100 Israeli captives in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian resistance movement also said dozens of captives died in indiscriminate Israeli airstrikes.

In defiance of United Nations Security Council resolutions demanding an immediate ceasefire, the Israeli army continues its genocidal war against the Gaza Strip; a war which has claimed more than 45,800 Palestinian victims, mainly women and children, since October 7, 2023.

In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defense minister, Yoav Gallant, for war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in the Gaza Strip.

Israel is also being prosecuted before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for “the crime of genocide”, due to the murderous war it is waging against the besieged Palestinian enclave.
