For Tanguy Borra, our arts expert and RTL consultant, these championships are “a total success”. “There were more than 800 registrations per day, for the singles on Saturday and the doubles on Sunday.”
“Never seen so much French-speaking presence”
On the junior side, prodigy Lex Paeshuyse lost in the round of 32. Nevertheless, the new junior world champion reached the men’s doubles final the next day. It was Dries Cremers who won among the boys. On the girls’ side, Jentl Fransen obviously won.
“The young Yanis Quettier, from my club Castel (Etterbeek), achieved a very good result by reaching the semi-finals of round B,” underlines Tanguy Borra. “I have never seen so much French-speaking presence at the Belgian championships. The enthusiasm was there.”
The two best results are attributed to Christophe Landas for the men and Carine Dessein for the women. They both finished 5th.
In doubles, the pair Bryan Raman (former professional player) and Xanti Van den Bergh (Dimitri’s brother) won the men’s category. The pair Patricia De Peuter (Belgian champion) and Dana Verhaegen (the wife of Kim Huybrechts) won the women’s category.
All the results can be found here. Some images of the tournament can also be found in this RTL report on the phenomenon Luke Littler, recent world darts champion.
