Successful comeback for Lindsey Vonn. For her return to the World Cup, after an absence of almost six years, the 40-year-old skier with 82 career victories, finished 14th in the super-G in Saint-Moritz (Switzerland), Saturday December 21.
Coming out of retirement in February 2019 following the World Championships in Are (Sweden) for “the love of skiing”as she wrote on Instagram, the American started in 31st position on a track that was slower than her main competitors. Despite a track plowed by her competitors, and a very cautious first sector (even missed), the 2010 Olympic downhill champion finished just 1'18″ behind the winner Cornelia Hütter. She completed two very good sectors 2 and 4 , respectively signing the 4th and 5th best times in these portions.
“I feel stronger now than in my twenties, and my passion for skiing has never left me”warned the Minnesota native, 20 years after her first World Cup success. Victim of numerous injuries during her career, the downhill specialist entered the starting gate with a titanium prosthesis, which replaced part of her right knee in the spring. “It’s great, we need history and it’s a great story”enthused the president of the FIS, Johan Eliasch.
