During the Euro 2024 round of 16 match between Germany and Denmark in Dortmund, a man managed to climb onto the stadium roof during the match, before being arrested by police. The act has raised questions about the stadium’s security.

On Saturday evening, while the Euro 2024 match between Germany and Denmark was underway, a hooded individual with a backpack was spotted on the roof of the Westfalenstadion. German police announced his arrest, according to AFP.

Images broadcast by the Daily Mail show the man moving on the metal structure of the stadium, causing concern among spectators and law enforcement.

No evidence has been put forward to explain this gesture.

Alerted, the police set up a system to arrest the individual safely. The man was subdued and taken to the police station.

Police said the man was a 21-year-old from Osnabrück, Germany. The police said “there is no indication that this individual intended to endanger spectators at the stadium by his behavior.”

The incident, however, highlights potential security gaps at the stadium. How did the suspect gain such easy access to the roof? The German organisation told Bild that more than 22,000 police officers were present in and around the stadiums during the competition.
