Suspicious death of a woman in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville

Police have been investigating a suspicious death in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, on the South Shore of Montreal, since Saturday morning.

A woman in her fifties was found lifeless in a unit of an apartment building on rue Benoit, around 10:30 a.m., said the spokesperson for the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL), Ghyslain Vallières.

“We have to determine what the circumstances are, whether it is natural, accidental or dramatic,” he told the media, describing the death as “suspicious.”

“We are trying to contact the family, so we will limit ourselves in our comments,” added the spokesperson.

However, the police must meet with the person who called 9-1-1 and who was on site when they arrived.

It is not yet known whether the deceased showed signs of violence.

In response to a question from the Journal, Ghyslain Vallières did not want to specify whether the police had already been called to this residence in the past.

“It would be too early to move in this direction in terms of the investigation. We will protect ourselves in terms of certain elements, including this one,” he argued.

A command post was deployed to the scene to meet potential witnesses and shed light on this case.

The event is said to have taken place in a building that is clearly very recent, while machinery is still present to develop the land around it.

Some units also seemed still unoccupied, noted The newspaper.
