The Minister of Ecological Transition, present in the various governments since 2018, estimated this Friday, October 18 that “the account is not there” in the 2025 budget for “adaptation to climate change and the fight against carbon emissions. greenhouse gases.

Tension is rising a little more within the government in the midst of discussions on the budget in the Assembly. Asked about Michel Barnier’s finance bill for 2025, the Minister of Ecology Transition Agnès Pannier-Runacher expressed her frustration this Friday, October 18. “We need a budget that is up to the situation and that is not the case today”she criticized, on the set of BFMTV.

The one who is one of the representatives of the “left wing of the macronie” then defended a “absolute need to invest in adaptation to climate change”. Or, “today, in budgetary matters, on adaptation to climate change and on the fight against greenhouse gas emissions, the account is not there”she lamented to Apolline de Malherbe.

The ecology budget, as presented by the Barnier government, is supposed to increase from 16.78 billion to 19.55 billion euros. An increase, however, is misleading, since it is mechanically linked to support for renewable energies and which includes cuts in certain measures, such as support for the purchase of clean vehicles or the MaPrimeRénov system. Agnès Pannier-Runacher therefore insisted that her colleagues at Bercy not have an approach “brutally accounting” and called “roll up your sleeves” facing the climate situation.

She then appealed to parliamentarians: “I expect the national representation to take up this subject”she said on the 24-hour news channel. Rather optimistic that she will obtain a better budget, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Energy, Climate and Risk Prevention continued: “I’m going to fight.” With a barely veiled threat, the one that has been made by all governments since 2018, put pressure on Michel Barnier: “Above all, I want to work on having the means for my action […] if I don’t have them, I will draw conclusions from them.”

An outing reminiscent of another in the “left wing” of the government. The Keeper of the Seals, Didier Migaud, had also warned at the start of the week that he would not remain in Michel Barnier’s team if the budget of his Ministry of Justice was not improved, after a major blow. nearly 500 million euros in the finance bill planned for next year.
