Barça reveals having refused an astronomical offer for Lamine Yamal

Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, has confirmed that he turned down a 250 million euro offer from a club to sign Lamine Yamal six months ago.

Joan Laporta spoke at length to the Barça channel, Barça One, on Thursday. And the Catalan president confirmed having received at least a rather offensive approach for his nugget Lamie Yamal, then 16 years old. “Listen, a club came to me to buy Lamine Yamal for 250 million euros and I said no six months ago,” said the Catalan leader.

“What is Lamine’s true value?”

At the time, the young winger was not yet European champion with Spain, a competition in which he shone with four assists and a splendid goal against in the semi-final (2-1) . “What is the real value of Lamine now that he also won a European championship and is also the fashionable player in the world?,” Laporta continued.

The latter does not disclose the name of the club in question. Several reports have reported a possible offer from PSG for the Spanish nugget. In September, the influential Croatian agent Andy Bara (he notably managed the transfer of Dani Olmo to Barça this summer) declared, in the Inkubator podcast, that had made an offer to FC Barcelona to acquire Lamine Yamal (17 years). “I know that Barça rejected a big offer of around 250 million euros for Lamine Yamal from PSG,” he said in comments reported by the Spanish press on Monday.

In July, the Spanish press agency EFE also assured that Barça had rejected an offer of the same amount from the French capital. But the French club would have denied this information, according to the Catalan newspaper Sport. The amount in question would have made Yamal the most expensive player in the world ahead of Neymar, recruited for 222 million euros by PSG from Barça in 2017. Currently under contract until 2026, Lamine Yamal would already have an agreement to extend his lease two more years on the day he turns 18 (July 13, 2025) with the integration of a release clause of one billion euros inside.
