Lhe exceptional 2024 road cycling season closed in Como on an equally major note with a finale, if not announced, at least predictable since the best rider in the world won alone ahead of the number two in the world ranking, our valiant compatriot Remco Evenepoel, author of his most brilliant Tour of Lombardy with whom he had an egg to peel since his fall in the Mur de Sormano in 2020.

It is also in this difficulty taken in the other direction that Tadej Pogacar, 48 miles from the finish, extricated himself from what remained of the peloton wrung out by the pace imposed by the world champion’s teammates. “He took off just after the bridge where I fell, I knew that’s where he would accelerate because that’s where the slope is the steepest,” explained the Olympic champion.
