Raphaël Glucksmann wants to “do for France what we did for Europe”
Raphaël Glucksmann, the leader of Place publique, called on the French to join his party to participate “to a great and beautiful project for France”in his return to politics speech at La Réole, in Gironde. The MEP brought together some 2,000 people this weekend to prepare a social-democratic option likely to challenge the leadership of the left with Jean-Luc Mélenchon and La France insoumise, and to beat the far right in 2027.
Arriving at the head of the left in the European elections with 14%, leading the joint list of the Socialist Party and Place publique on a pro-European and anti-LFI line, Mr. Glucksmann wants to continue “the political adventure, which must lead us to power”. Place publique went from 1,500 members to nearly 11,000 in a few weeks, but “we must be five to ten times more numerous”asked the MEP.
Wanting “do for France what we did for Europe”he notably proposed as a first project “the change in the voting method and the transition to proportional representation in our country”. Refusing to resort “to platform effects, postures or easy solutions”he took the oath of “sincerity”.
“If we want to take radical measures, then we will take them effectively, (…) This is not a contest of “more left than me, you die””he continued in a dig at Jean-Luc Mélenchon, but “to take strong measures because the situation requires it and we will have worked on them sufficiently”he insisted.
He also promised not to “put nothing under the rug”and to address the themes “which sometimes seem to make the left uncomfortable”such as security, authority, identity, integration and immigration. “But that does not mean that we will make right-wing speeches on these subjects. This means we will have our answers to these questions. »
Left, “Initiatives are sprouting up everywhere at the moment, but that shouldn’t worry us at all”he assured. “These initiatives will converge. They will feed off each other”he promised. Recently, the (socialist) president of the Occitanie region, Carole Delga, organized Meetings of the Left in Bram (Aude), while the (PS) mayor of Saint-Ouen, Karim Bouamrane, launched his movement.
