As the members of Slipknot commemorate the 25th anniversary of their self-titled album with a world tour, they have hinted that new music is coming “sooner than you can imagine”. In a recent interview with Revolver, singer Corey Taylor, percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan and guitarist Jim Root talked about their anniversary tour, new projects and the highly anticipated album Look Outside Your Window.

The band, which includes new drummer Eloy Casagrande (formerly of Sepultura), took stock of how far they’ve come since their debut album, released in 1999 and certified twice multi-platinum. The tour celebrating this milestone will extend through early 2025, giving fans the opportunity to relive the raw energy and groundbreaking sound that propelled Slipknot into the metal stratosphere.

New music on the horizon

Despite the celebrations, Slipknot fans are eagerly awaiting new music. Clown has confirmed that new music is indeed on the way. “There will always be new music from Slipknot”he assured. “I can say there will be music sooner than you can imagine, delivered in ways you couldn’t suspect.”

The band is currently working independently, having completed their contract with Roadrunner Records. This newfound freedom opened the way to unconventional outings. “I love that”says Clown. “It makes things more exciting!”

The highly anticipated Look Outside Your Window

The enigmatic side project Look Outside Your Window, created during the All Hope Is Gone sessions in 2008, remains a subject of intrigue. Clown explained the album’s delay by citing the evolving nature of the music industry and the band’s busy schedule. “The album has been finished for a long time”did he declare. “But the world keeps changing, and so do my feelings about art.”

Describing the project as timeless, Clown highlighted its emotional depth. “It really is that good, and it’s truly timeless… You’ll never hear Corey Taylor sing like that on one of his solo albums.”

Guitarist Jim Root echoed the impatience surrounding the album. “Five or six years ago, I told Clown, ‘Man, I’m tired of waiting for this to come out, I’m just going to put it on YouTube for everyone to hear.’ Root also discussed the album’s unique creative process, influenced by artists such as Björk and Portishead.

A new dynamic with Eloy Casagrande

Slipknot’s latest lineup, with drummer Eloy Casagrande, has already started writing new music. Root gave an overview of their first sessions. “We have a bunch of songs that were written during COVID”he declared, while recognizing the difficult circumstances of this period.

Casagrande and bassist Alessandro “Vman” Venturella brought new energy to the group. “When he and VMan were staying at my house, we jammed several times in my home studio”, recalls Root. The group plans to reunite and write together, in order to recapture the collaborative spirit of their first albums.

The mystery element

To add to the band’s enigmatic aura, the identity of the current sampler, who replaced Craig “133” Jones in 2023, remains secret. Despite the speculation, Corey Taylor confirmed that fans haven’t guessed correctly yet. “There are certainly people who have theories [sur son identité]but none are correct”he noted, appreciating the mystery and discreet approach of the new member.
