Off-screen, we hear the atrocious sound of the decapitation of the child whose head is taken away by the soldier to prove his mission accomplished… in shock, Helaena, with her daughter Jaehaera in her arms, rushes into Alicent’s room which she surprises in complete intimacy with Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel).

In George RR Martin’s book, the murder scene differs slightly. Helaena brings her three children (the twins and youngest son Maelor) to Alicent’s chambers to wish her goodnight. The killers murder the guards and force Helaena to choose which of her sons they will kill. Helaena asks them to kill her and leave her children, but when one of the killers threatens to rape Jaehaera, the queen ends up naming Maelor. The villains nevertheless end up decapitating Jaehaerys.
