The dynamic Cherbourg association Bring the Mosh – whose objective is to promote so-called “extreme” music in the Cotentin by regularly organizing concerts – has been preparing its very first festival for months. Eight talented groups were invited for this first edition of Moshin’ in the Rain, Saturday September 28, 2024 at L’Autre Lieu (René-Le Bas space in Cherbourg), from 3 p.m.!

Terror Swift before Friday

The day before the festival, Friday September 27, while the assembly will continue in the P200 room, a before is scheduled with the group Terror Swift. The concept of the group from is simple: rock and metal hits (from 1982 to 2003!) covered in an acoustic version, with two singers who intertwine their voices. For a surprising and classy result that will suit perfectly the intimate atmosphere of L’Autre Bar, within L’Autre Lieu.

“A crazy day awaits you in the room P200we can’t wait to be there and welcome you,” say the organizers, who will benefit from a large sound and light installation. “We are borrowing all the equipment from the Buisson cultural space, we will dismantle everything and reassemble it at L’Autre Lieu, thanks to our partners at the Circuit and the City,” explains Hugo Blactot, the president of Bring the Mosh, who did not hesitate to ask other organizers of festivals of the same type for valuable advice.

Local bands and headliners

The gauge will rise to 215 spectators, and 70 pre-sales (Editor’s note: reduced rate until September 23) had already left a few days ago. For the event to continue, metal fans need to play the game by coming in large numbers so that the budget is balanced. “We hope so and we’ll see on D-Day, because people often prefer to buy their tickets at the last minute,” notes Hugo Blactot.

Since its creation in 2019 – with a false start called Covid-19… – Bring the Mosh has strived to evolve on stage local and regional groups, in particular. In this musical niche, it is true that concert venues are not legion… A few bars, an evening in a contemporary music venue here and there… Metalheads must learn to travel, beyond the borders of Manche, if they want to spread their sound.

For three Cherbourg bands, Moshin’ in the Rain is therefore an excellent opportunity to make themselves known to the public and the programmers. They are Aelyth (deathcore), Salò (industrial black metal) and Getting Low (hardcore). As good neighbours, the Saint-Lois de Cyphre (melodic death) will also be there. One last Norman band, from Rouen, will heat up the P200 stage: Stabwound, for fans of raw death metal.

Half-time at 7 p.m.

The three headliners come to us from (Verbal Razors, thrash crossover), Liège in Belgium (Brutal Sphincter, goregrind) and (Karras, grindcore).

Verbal Razors are everywhere at festivals; Brutal Sphincter tours all over Europe and has played at Motocultor, Hellfest…; Karras plays all over , Europe and even Japan: the trio brings together Diego (a native who was notably part of Sickbag), a guitarist from Mass Hysteria and the drummer from Aqme. In other words, heavy and experienced.

The festival will therefore begin at 3 p.m., with a “dinner break” at 7 p.m., before the music starts up again in full swing. A half-time that will also be an opportunity to enjoy the neighboring room P400, “which will be set up to host exhibitors as well as artist merchandising.

The public will also be able to eat and have fun at the bar-grill-restaurant (meat and vegetarian sandwiches, fries) run by volunteers from Bring the Mosh and the Arts Bourrins festival.

Free entry to the village

Entrance to the P400 will be free, accessible without a ticket for the festival. There will be three tattoo artists (La Trogne, Viceosa and Faukos); two luthiers (Lutherie Vérité and Sur un air de guitare); merch from Bring the Mosh, the Graz Zeppelin festival (in Lessay), the scheduled groups and the Cracra Records label; two exhibitions (photos by Alex, works by the multidisciplinary visual artist from Cherbourg, Karoko)…

“There will also be animations and competitions offered by Gamepads and the Digital Village, with prizes to be won: a quiz on metal culture, morphing (finding portraits) and battles on the video game Guitar Hero, rejoices Hugo Blactot. The goal of this village: to introduce metal culture to even the uninitiated.

Saturday, September 28, from 3 p.m., room P200 at L’Autre Lieu, 61 rue de l’Abbaye in Cherbourg. Tickets on pre-sale at €25 until September 23 on helloasso.com; €30 on site. Free access to the exhibitors’ village in room P400.
