With this new action film, French cinema is playing John Wick style! Excited fights and impressive stunts should be part of this feature film which unveils its first trailer before its release this summer in theaters in France.

Since the release of the first John Wick in 2014, action cinema has undergone a small revolution. With its ultra-choreographed and nervous fights, the adventures of the character played by Keanu Reeves quickly became a huge success., to the point of entering three sequels, a series and spin-offs currently in production. Faced with such popularity, we are obviously entitled to numerous feature films which have been largely inspired by it, such as Equalizer, Atomic Blonde and Nobody. But today, it is the turn of French cinema to appropriate the codes established by John Wick with Elyas. Scheduled for this summer, the action film starring Roschdy Zem unveils its first trailer before its release in cinemas.

Elyas, a French John Wick?

In Elyas, Roschdy Zem plays Elyas Florès, a former Special Forces soldier marked by his years of service since he has since become solitary and paranoid. After his military career, the latter became a bodyguard, notably for Amina and her 13-year-old daughter Nour, who both come from the Middle East. Unfortunately, their protection will not be easy because a mysterious commando targets the young woman and her daughter. However, in this situation, Elyas is determined not to back down and eliminate this threat to their lives.

An action film with multiple references

At the origin of this project, we find Florent Emilio-Siri, French specialist in action films since we give him feature films like Wasp’s Nest, Hostage or The Intimate Enemy. More recently, he is best known for having directed episodes of the Netflix series Marseille, with Benoît Magimel and Gérard Depardieu. But with this project, he returns to the action film genre, drawing inspiration from numerous testimonies and other news stories about wealthy women from the Middle East who try to flee their country to escape their powerful husbands.

Camera on the shoulder, the film promises to be a mix of many influences. If that of John Wick is obvious as it shines in the genre, we can also cite Jason Bourne, which still remains a reference today, or even Man on Fire. And if the project seems intriguing, the good news is that we won’t have to wait too long before discovering it in the cinema since‘Elyas is scheduled for July 3 in theaters.
