“The mayor of Langon is fully involved in the fire station project. We are hopeful of seeing it move forward,” says Georges Dugachard, municipal councilor responsible for security in Langon (Gironde).
He represents Mayor Jérôme Guillem at the Sainte-Barbe of the firefightersSaturday January 4, 2025 at the barracks.
The subject is a sea serpent. But the dilapidated premises of the Langon rescue center, boulevard Jean-Moulin, call for the urgent delivery of new buildings.
The last hypothesis would be existing buildings transformed into barracks.
“Different land proposals are being studied by the SDIS (departmental fire and rescue service), confirms the president of SDIS 33, Jean-Luc Gleyze. There is the possibility of raze the current barracks and rebuild it on the same site (Editor's note: but the town hall is not in favor of this option). The last hypothesis would be existing buildings reinvested and transformed into barracks. I agree with the financing if everyone – namely the municipalities in the sector – is there. We need either existing premises or land. »
It is up to the town hall to choose one of the solutions. The premises of the ex-Siss and Sictom, in the Dumès area, would be an option.
13 new firefighters hired
Captain Benoît Isner, head of the fire and rescue center, after presenting decorations and ranks with sub-prefect Vincent Ferrier and Jean-Luc Gleyze, greets the 13 new firefighters hired of the barracks which counts in total 42 professionals et 75 volunteers.
“A new forest fire unit, with two new tankers CCF 6000, will arrive to respond to fires in forests and urban areas, specifies Captain Benoît Isner. The wildfire season has been relatively calm. Forecasting systems have been mobilized in the forest massif. In 2025, we will continue our efforts to maintain a high level of skills and operational efficiency. »
It indicates a new partnership with the firefighters cycling championship which will take place on May 30 and 1is June to Sauternes.
Artificial intelligence in lookouts
Sébastien Castel, head of the South-East group, adds that 13,800 operations were carried out on the group and 2,800 on Langon.
“A forest monitoring device with artificial intelligence will be implemented in watchtowers. The firefighters will be redeployed in the vehicles,” he announces.
He also notes that the group has the largest number of sections of Young Firefighters, namely 9.
“The supply of trucks is essential. It comes from the fires of 2022, adds Jean-Luc Gleyze. We are deploying in the massif of video surveillance cameras with the contribution of AI. In the middle of the night, they will see a red car light and the start of a fire. »
He welcomes the increase in skills of firefighters who can carry out emergency care procedures. “This helps relieve pain while waiting for health experts to intervene. More than 1 000 acts emergency care was carried out in Gironde. »
“You are the soldiers of the climate”
Sub-prefect Vincent Ferrier pays tribute to the commitment of the firefighters, “to the new command in Langon and its efficiency”.
“You are not only soldiers of fire and emergency, you are also the climate soldiers », underlines Georges Dugachard.
