Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD announces the most powerful consumer processor in the world

In parallel with the announcement of the Radeon RX 9070 series, AMD also completed its range of Ryzen 9000X3D processors. AMD has announced new Ryzen 9 processors equipped with 3D V-Cache technology, confirming the arrival of 12- and 16-core variants.

The Ryzen 9 9950X3D is now the new showcase of the X3D offer. As a flagship model, it is armed with 16 physical cores and 32 logical cores. Its boost frequency is capable of reaching 5.7 GHz, a value identical to that of the current Ryzen 9 9950X. Its thermal envelope is 170 Watts while its equipment includes a total cache of 144 MB compared to 80 MB for its big non-X3D brother.

For its part, the Ryzen 9 9900X3D has a slightly reduced boost frequency of 5.5 GHz (compared to 5.6 GHz for the Ryzen 9 9900X). Its total cache increases to 140 MB, almost double the 76 MB of the non-X3D version, while maintaining a TDP of 120 W. It has 12 physical cores supporting SMT technology or 24 logical cores.

AMD has shared some promising performance figures for the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

Compared to its big brother, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, it is 8% more efficient on average in gaming based on 40 titles tested at 1080p with high settings. Under the same conditions, the Core Ultra 9 285K is completely exceeded with a decline of 20% on average.

In creation the results are just as interesting with an increase in performance of 13% compared to the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, based on 20 professional applications and 10% compared to the Core Ultra 9 285K.

If these various results are confirmed, AMD has in its hands the most efficient consumer processor in the world, a title whatever the uses, a title which will not delight Intel.

AMD plans to market these new processors from the first quarter of 2025. However, in the absence of information on their price, it is difficult to determine their competitiveness compared to the existing range and competing products.
