“Everything will be put back in order for the start of the school year. » Such was the promise made by Franck Pia (UDI), mayor of Beauvais (Oise), the day after the ransacking of elementary school classes Alphonse Daudetas well as an annex of the school Charles Perraultin ZUP Argentina on Christmas Eve. The elected official then described the perpetrators of these acts as “morons who have no limits”. Bet held this Monday, January 6, the day of the start of the school year.
A destroyed laptop, completely turned over deskscupboards in disarray and school materials on the ground… Although no theft was to be deplored, the school found itself in a bad state.
On this day of resumption, the rector of the Amiens academy Pierre Moya as well as a delegation of elected officials from the city stood with the students and teachers from 8:30 a.m.
“How could they enter the school like a mill? »
Still, the trauma is great.
We talked about it at home with my children. If they are not aware of the seriousness of this act, they dread returning to class. They wonder why it was their school, and not another, that was affected.
“Mine is small, he’s 6 years old, so he doesn’t really realize it yet. But I think it was still important for the children to have things explained to them,” agrees Jennifer, another parent, for whom many questions are still unanswered in this matter.
“How come they were able to enter the school like in a mill? Has personal data been stolen? We don’t know anything about it and that worries us greatly.”
This is not the first time that this school has been targeted, according to her. “We have already seen trash cans burning outside, but there has never been such damage inside. »
“The school stands tall”
In front of the gate of the establishment, a warning note was taped: “You are destroying a school, you are destroying the future of children!” » A slogan that Pierre Moya, the rector of the Amiens academy, has made his own.
I was really shocked to learn this and have real empathy with the entire teaching team. Because it’s not just any public service that we’re tackling. It is the public service of the intangible, that which serves children to become free and enlightened citizens.
Through his presence, the representative of the Minister of National Education wanted to show that the school of the Republic stood “upright, solid and resistant”. He also congratulated the services of the city of Beauvais for this express restoration. “A real feat during the holiday season! »
The bill amounts to (at least) 10,000 euros
Concerning the costs of repairs, the City has currently estimated the repair of damaged equipment at 10,000 euros. But it will probably be necessary to recommend digital tablets, damaged during the ransacking of the school, which could further increase the bill.
Video surveillance will be redesigned, assures the mayor
The question has been on everyone's lips since that sad night of December 23. Should new cameras be added to this establishment as parents and teachers are demanding? Especially since from here 2027this school should be merged into the new Samuel Paty school group.
Is it worth it to install an entire expensive surveillance system for just two years? That is the whole question.
“Clearly, the existing video surveillance around the school is not enough. We must therefore make the link with the video on all the sites, in the three schools (Perrault, Daudet and Rostand). We will also study solutions around mobile cameras,” confirms the mayor, for whom the priority, initially, was “putting the school back in order”.
Concerning the progress of the investigation carried out to identify the perpetrators, this seems to be at a standstill for the moment. “I have no news yet,” said the elected official.
