The Dabo region in Moselle is definitely rich in treasures and mysteries. After the treasure of the golden owl, which the “owlers” seemed to locate in the Dabo sector and of which we will only know the location of the discovery in April 2025, we learn that “the treasure of Dabo ” was discovered on December 31, 2024 at the Hengst rock in Dabo.
Dabo's Treasure had a similar form, a treasure hunt with ten riddles to decipher. It started on February 4, 2023. The treasure of this game consisted of “a 1 kg silver coin representing on the obverse a bust of Queen Elizabeth II as well as four FIJI silver bars of 250 grams each. Its value is estimated at 2287.40 euros.“
The game was to end on December 31, 2024, at midnight, just before the transition to 2025. The treasure was found on December 31 at 9:50 a.m., Facebook tells us.
Who found it? A pseudonym is put forward “Jurassic Geocaching”. For his part, the organizer, who calls himself Joe Hahn, confirms on the site that the treasure has been found and gives the solution to the puzzles.
Why has Dabo become a land of treasure hunts? A beginning of an answer lies behind the name of the organizer of “in the footsteps of the golden owl”, a certain Max Valentin, a pseudonym which hid Régis Hauser, organizer of treasure hunts of all kinds from Sarreguemines, in Moselle. For around ten years, he organized treasure hunts for marketing reasons. He also organized rallies.
He is co-author of the book, which bears the same title “in the footsteps of the golden owl”, with Michel Becker. The latter is the illustrator of the puzzles and the design of the owl. One of the sentences from the book undoubtedly led some of the “chouetteurs” of France to Dabo: “In Dabo, Moselle, chests full of gold are said to be stored in the caved-in caves of the mountain.“

Régis Hauser died in 2009 and it was Michel Becker who announced that the treasure of the golden owl had been found. On the maxvalentin.com website, it is explained that the treasure hunt is a fantastic marketing tool to get people talking about a region.
In the case of Dabo's treasure, for now, the mystery remains unsolved. Who is behind the nickname Joe Hahn? The organizer writes on his site that this is the third hunt he has imagined and carried out after “Tanit's Treasure and The Luciani Family in 2021“. Is he close to Régis Hauser?
For all those who dream of enigmas and treasures to discover, there is at least one site which lists them and this article. Michel Becker promised a “sequel”: “The new Golden Owl will fly from exactly where the first one was buried, on April 24, 2025“.
In 2021, he had already indicated a new part. There are also puzzles to find an object whose value would be 750,000 euros, a royal box with precious stones. The game is still in progress.
There too, he wrote a book explaining that participation in the game was not conditional on purchasing the book. Notice to amateurs!
