The dedication of firefighters is limitless, but their commitment carries risks. To help them and their families, the Orne Departmental Union of Firefighters (UDSP61) is relaunching Operation Galettes des Rois for firefighters, in nine bakeries in Orne, an outpouring of generosity which relies on the solidarity of bakers and consumers.

Eleven bakeries and pastry shops in Orne are participating in this initiative this year, two more than last year: for each galette des rois sold, €1 will be donated to the social causes of the firefighters. The impact of this operation is twofold: half of the funds collected will be intended to help orphans and wards of firefighters, numbering 1,712 nationally, including around ten in Orne. The other half will be used to support the firefighters themselves in the event of temporary material difficulties.

€5,855 collected in Orne in 2024

Last year, this national mobilization raised €124,000, including €5,855 collected in Orne. This year, all the bakeries participating in 2024 have reiterated their commitment, with two new establishments. However, latecomers who wish to join this show of solidarity can contact Captain Dominique Maudoigt at the CDIS to join the operation.

To find out which bakeries near you support this cause, go to the UDSP61 website. “ By purchasing your cake in these establishments, you are actively participating in a chain of solidarity which provides valuable support to our firefighters and their families” indicates Captain Maudoigt.
