No surprise, but a deserved recognition
This is no surprise, since the film was already the big favorite in the competition. But its four awards deserve to be saluted: best musical film, best international film, best supporting actress for Zoé Saldaña, and best song for French artists Camille and Clément Ducol. This cinematic UFO, which tells the story of the gender transition of a drug trafficker, can certainly claim an Oscar.
Flow, the other Belgian success
Its director dedicated this victory “to all those who feel worried today”before encouraging them “to keep their heads held high, to continue fighting and to hope for better days”. Belgian cinema has something to puff out thanks to the success of this co-production produced by The River Filmsthe Dardenne brothers’ production company.
But that’s not all: co-production Flow also received the title of best animated film. This poetic and silent odyssey takes us on a journey with a little cat who is afraid of water. One morning he wakes up to find that the entire world is flooded and humans have disappeared. Like Noah’s Ark, he finds refuge with other animals on a large boat. But their understanding will not always be good… A universal work with a captivating aesthetic.
Long-awaited surprise for Demi Moore
The 62-year-old American actress, although world-famous, had never received an award until the release of The Substance. “I’ve been doing this job for a long time, more than 45 years, and this is the first time I’ve won anything as an actress,” the actress exclaimed.
In this kitsch and sometimes gory dystopia directed by Coralie Fargeat, she plays a fallen Hollywood star addicted to a youth serum. A revolutionary substance that rejuvenates, but not without a heavy price to pay.
