500 runners challenged the Ariège Pyrenees Photo Stéphanie Leborne
This Sunday, January 5, the Beille plateau turned into a racing ground for the first edition of the snow trail, orchestrated by the Tarasconnais association VO2 Max. From dawn, 500 runners gathered at this emblematic site of the Ariège Pyrenees, determined to take up the challenge and, for some, to discover this unique setting.
A race at 1800 m altitude
Perched at an altitude of 1,800 meters, crampons on their feet and smiles on their faces, several hundred enthusiasts from Tarn, Haute-Garonne, Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales set off on the powder this Sunday morning. At 9:30 a.m. and then 10 a.m., they set off with humility but determination. Two races, one goal: to surpass yourself while enjoying an exceptional setting.
Although the weather was mild, the mountain lost none of its demands. Anthony Gobbe, winner of the 10 km, from Bagnères-de-Bigorre, testifies: “The course was magnificent but challenging, with soft snow. It’s an incredible site, it makes you want to come back. »
Anthony Combe, winner of the 20km, shares this feeling despite the effort: “The last climb was difficult, but the breathtaking view of the Pyrenees and the slopes makes me want to come back and discover more. »
The first trail on the Beille plateau
Although many sporting events highlight the Beille plateau, this race marks a great first. “This is the first trail organized here,” explains Julien Augé, president of the VO2 Max association.
“It is the culmination of a project shared with the association office: to run on this site which we know well and which we find exceptional. We worked closely with the station staff, whom we warmly thank, as well as with its director, Georges Vignaux. We hope that this race can be a lasting part of the calendar of events on the plateau”
