Morocco has just taken measures that will truly facilitate travel abroad for studies.

Concretely, the authorities of the Maghreb country have issued a new circular which modernizes and considerably relaxes the conditions of currency transfer for Moroccan students.

The Foreign Exchange Office has just published Circular No. 1/2025, a text which aims to be revolutionary in the policy of supporting Moroccan students wishing to continue their studies abroad.

The new regulations broaden the circle of beneficiaries by including not only Moroccan residents, but also Moroccans residing abroad and people of Moroccan origin who do not have national identity documents.

One of the salient points of this circular concerns the terms of currency transfer.

Students can now benefit from a monthly allowance of 12,000 dirhams (equivalent to 2 million CFA francs) for their living expenses, an amount which can be increased upon justification.

Tuition fees are covered without a ceiling, upon presentation of appropriate supporting documents.

Notable innovation; the possibility of transferring up to one year of fees in advance, a measure which considerably facilitates financial planning for studies.

Expense management has also been redesigned with authorization to open a bank account abroad.

This provision, framed by the obligation to close and repatriate funds within 60 days following the end of the stay, offers greater autonomy to students while preserving the economic interests of the country.

Banking establishments are called upon to support this reform.

Domiciling the file with a single bank simplifies administrative procedures and guarantees better monitoring of operations.

Banks are also responsible for verifying the conformity of supporting documents, in particular registration certificates and lease contracts.

By facilitating access to studies abroad, Morocco is investing in the training of its youth and in the development of the skills necessary for its economic growth.
