As with the girls, the Senegalese Basketball Federation (FSBB) also organized the draw for the National 1 Men’s basketball championship this Saturday, January 4 for the 2024-2025 season. ASCVD, title holder, is in group A, with JA, DUC and AS Douanes are in group B.
The Senegalese basketball champion of the 2024 season, ASC Ville de Dakar, will put its title back on the line for the new campaign. The municipal team had a remarkable season last year with its first championship title in its history since its foundation, thus putting an end to the hegemony of Customs.
Dakar City not only won the championship last season, as they also won the Coupe Saint-Michel against GBA. This group also includes the semi-finalist from the previous season, Joan of Arc, eliminated by ASCVD.
Pool B also includes two major Senegalese basketball teams, DUC and AS Douanes, who met in the semi-final of the championship the previous season, a match won by the student club. Vice-champions, Perfect Adjivon’s foals aspire to regain the title after their coronation in 2021. They had an honorable season by winning the Mayor’s Cup against the USO.
On the other hand, Customs failed to win a third championship title in a row after 2022 and 2023: the Gabelous were stopped in the semi-finals during the 2023-2024 financial year. By winning the Senegal Cup ahead of GBA, they managed to avoid a blank year. This season, Alkaly Mamadou Ndour’s partners will mainly try to regain the championship title at the end of the season. Just like for the girls, the men’s championship will also begin on Saturday January 11, 2025.
