As the saying goes, no one is a prophet in his own country. The sales figures for the American automobile market have just demonstrated this, since the legendary Pony Car, although alone in its category since the retirement of the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger, has just experienced its worst commercial year in ages. Ford has in fact not benefited from this unique position, since instead of progressing, it is falling by almost 10%, with 44,003 units sold on American soil in 2024.
Beaten by the electric version
And just to rub salt in the wound, Ford's annual figures show that, conversely, the Mustang Mach-e electric crossover performed particularly well in 2024, with an increase of 27%. Sales for the year were 51,745 copies in the USA. The VE model certainly probably benefited from some pretty hefty discounts from dealers, but still. This is a situation that could have been imagined anywhere, except in the United States. It remains to be seen whether electric vehicles will continue this trend when Trump begins his second term in a few days.
