Predictions

Lucky loser, the French Adrian Mannarino is offered a second chance during this Auckland tournament with an upcoming clash in the first round against the Argentinian Mariano Navone.

Adrian Mannarino will have a lot of points to defend at the Australian Open where he reached the quarter-finals a year ago. The Frenchman had experienced a big gap in the air during 2024 before regaining sensations during the last weeks of competition. The start of the French tennis player's season, however, is not very reassuring with a defeat in the first round of the Nouméa Challenger at the end of December and an elimination in qualifying in Auckland against the Indian Sumit Nagal. The 66th player in the world only owes his presence in the final draw to a last minute withdrawal, giving him a second chance that he will want to seize next night in a first round that is affordable on paper against Mariano Navone.

The Argentinian revealed himself last season, notably with a high-quality start to the season on clay, his favorite surface. But on a fast surface, things get worse with much more difficult results (3 victories in 14 matches on hard in 2024) for the 47th player in the ATP. Present last week in Brisbane, the South American lost as soon as he entered the competition against the Chilean Nicolas Jarry. Mariano Navone will not be the favorite on paper on a surface that hardly suits him but against a player who has lost confidence in recent months, this match could be contested.
