The various left-wing forces of the New Popular Front called, Saturday January 4 in a letter, for several measures to “repair the public hospital and access to local care”. “The crisis is systemic: it results from years of purely budgetary management of the public hospital, disregarding the alerts and requests of caregivers, and the needs of patients”write the former NFP candidate for Matignon, Lucie Castets, the coordinator of La insoumise, Manuel Bompard, the first secretary of the PS, Olivier Faure, the national secretary of the Ecologists, Marine Tondelier, and several elected communist officials. The text is also signed by other left-wing elected officials and several caregivers.

They call for citizen, political and activist mobilization “throughout the month of January” in order to influence the adoption of a budget in Parliament which “finally gives the public health system the means to function properly”believing that it must break with the project defended by the previous Barnier government. The signatories also intend to defend the adoption by Parliament of a socialist bill, aimed at establishing a minimum number of caregivers per hospitalized patient. This text, already voted on in the Senate, must be examined on January 23 in the Assembly, on the occasion of the annual day reserved for the examination of legislative proposals put forward by the socialist group.

The letter also calls for mobilization to defend the adoption of a bill to fight against medical deserts, which notably attacks the freedom of establishment of doctors. Signed by 237 deputies from all sides (except from the RN and the UDR, Eric Ciotti's group), this transpartisan text was tabled in the Assembly at the beginning of December, but it has not, for the moment, been included on the agenda.
