The fire started from outside the house according to firefighters, under the terrace. The flames then spread to the house and then attacked the wooden shutters of the house, causing the windows to explode.
“The internal damage was very limited thanks to the very rapid action of the Guillestre firefighters, who arrived first on the scene,” underlines Lieutenant-Colonel Pierre Collier, commander of the northern group of Haut-Alpine firefighters.
In total, around twenty firefighters from the Guillestre, L'Argentière-la-Bessée, Châteauroux-les-Alpes and Embrun barracks were mobilized to put an end to the disaster.
