Psychologist by day and comedian by evening, Alex Monteiro talks about his atypical career, the subjects that inspire him and the last of his show that he will perform on January 25 in Differdange.
So, certainly his show is called “Me, I”, but there is no point attributing to him an inordinate ego. If Alex Monteiro talks a lot about himself, it has nothing to do with narcissism. On the contrary, he handles self-deprecation like no one else and above all makes fun of himself. He tells us about his fear of sleepwalkers, spiders and certain tattoos. “I talk a lot about my anxieties, but the common thread is getting older.“. The obsession with the passing of time inspires him a lot in his writing even if he admits that his son “is also a great source of inspiration“.
Psycho humor?
Alex Monteiro is 41 years old, and has still not managed to choose between his profession as a psychologist and that of a comedian. And if we ask him if he does more good as a comedian, the psychologist laughs! “In a single session, there are 200 people who will laugh at the same time, and if that doesn’t solve much, humor remains a very good therapy.”
“It surprises a lot of people that I’m a psychologist and a comedian because I don’t fit the stereotype of either.“.
Born in Luxembourg in 1983, to Portuguese parents, Alex grew up surrounded by both cultures. The Portuguese one, of which he is proud, but also the Luxembourgish one which he likes to defend. Alex feels perfectly integrated into Luxembourg,”but the country is too small to do 50 dates with one show“So we had to export,”become a border crosser in the other direction“.
Alex Monteiro began theatrical improvisation in English and plays in French. He is perfectly comfortable in Luxembourgish, but has never played in this language. “Maybe out of laziness… it’s not enough to translate a show, you have to rework it. A friend regularly invites me to come and perform in Luxembourgish, but I haven’t yet taken the time to rewrite at least one sketch, but I promise, I will one day.”
Last session
In three years, he has toured the concert halls of the Greater Region. His show “Moi, je” has evolved over time. “There are things that have been added, but also others that I have removed. We have to let go of certain jokes.“
The show “Moi, je” was directed by Josselin Dailly and produced by the regional cultural center Aalt Stadhaus. After numerous performances in Belgium and France, he returns to where it all began on November 13, 2021. The circle will therefore come full circle on Saturday January 25 at the regional cultural center Aalt Stadhaus in Differdange for the last of “Moi, je”.
