The weather forecasts from the beginning of this week were confirmed on January 3: snow, followed by iceis well awaited in the and Pas-de- this weekend. More precisely from the evening of this Saturday January 4, 2024, prompting Météo to place the two departments on orange vigilance. Vigilance applies from 8 p.m., and will run all night from Saturday to Sunday. The road surveillance unit, for its part, issued a press release in which it indicated that the expected “effects of snow and freezing rain” could be “ particularly annoying for road traffic“. The greatest caution is recommended.

Snow and ice in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais: orange vigilance activated

Concretely, Météo France describes the phenomenon which is arriving in the territory as follows: “Following a widespread cold air mass over the entire region, a disturbance arrives at the end of the day bringing significantly milder air, which sweeps the region from southwest to northeast. The meeting of these two air masses causes winter precipitation. upon the arrival of the disturbance, from the end of the afternoon. »

Snow, then freezing rain, will appear in the early evening, in greater quantities in the western half of Hauts-de-France. It is for night-time travel that you will need to be very vigilant: the roads promise to be icy almost everywhere, but especially inland. Temperatures will be around 0°C, and a spectacular warm spell is expected from Sunday January 5 in the morning.

Indeed, temperatures ranging from 9 to 11°C will prevail on Sunday morning, with the return of rain, for the whole day.
