From January 7 at 6 a.m. (apart from periods when night traffic is cut off), alternating traffic using lights 24 hours a day will be put in place on the structure until summer 2025.
The Gard Departmental Council and the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council have initiated repair work on the Sylvéréal bridge. This structure, located between Aigues-Mortes and Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, allows the RD 58 to cross the Petit Rhône. Phase 2 of the work will start on Monday January 6, 2025.
It consists of repainting the structure to preserve its metal structure and therefore the longevity of the bridge. The presence of lead in the existing paint requires the structure to be completely encapsulated during the work to avoid any release of pollutants. The structure will thus be completely stripped and then repainted in oxide red color.
The work was entrusted to the group of companies Indigo, Sonocar, Manang, Alliance, Technisign, for an amount of €2.8M supported by the Departmental Councils of Bouches-du-Rhône and Gard.
Road traffic disruptions
Traffic will be cut off on the bridge for two nights, from January 6 to 7 and from January 7 to 8, 2025. The cutoff will take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., each night for the installation of the scaffolding. From January 7 at 6 a.m. (apart from periods when night traffic is cut off), traffic alternating by lights 24 hours a day will be put in place on the structure until summer 2025. The bridge will be strictly prohibited to heavy goods vehicles over 12 tonnes for the duration of the work. They will need to take the diversion route (see below).
Subsequently, several periods including a few nights of traffic interruption will take place between now and next summer, to allow the scaffolding to be moved and the painting work to continue. During the nights when traffic is cut off on the structure, a diversion will be put in place.
