Hans Vanaken should soon lift a third Golden Shoe, confirming his status as Belgium’s best player. But the Bruges community is not necessarily passionate about football.
Who else but him? This January will be awarded the Golden Shoe, and the big favorite is Hans Vanakenwho would win his third trophy there. He would equal Wilfried Van Moer and Jan Ceulemans, other players to win the golden shoe three times (Paul Van Himst won it four times).

“There is already enough football in my life. I barely watch football at home. I want to see my daughter grow up, I devote my time away from football to something else. I want my family to be proud of me, but for who I am, not because I play football well,” says Vanaken.
The metronome of Club Brugge knows that he has a good chance of achieving a resounding hat-trick in a few weeks. “I know that given my performances, there is a chance that I will win a third Golden Shoe, yes,” admits Hans Vanaken.
“I of course know who the other players who have won the trophy three times are. But I have never seen them play, so it is difficult to say whether I deserve my place alongside them or not,” concludes the Bruges resident with honesty .
