ATLNH : On parle de Colton Poolman, Bennett MacArthur, Mark Kastelic, Dougie Hamilton

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Colton Poolman from the Buffalo Sabers in exchange for forward Bennett MacArthur on Friday.

Poolman is under contract for the 2024-25 campaign with a contract worth $775,000 annually at the NHL level. He will appear in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League.

Poolman, 29, spent his entire five-year professional AHL career between Rochester, Calgary and Stockton. The 6’1″, 200-pound defenseman has appeared in 218 career AHL games, recording six goals, 34 assists. He also has three assists in 27 career Calder Cup playoff games.

As for MacArthur, he never played and was never drafted in the NHL. He is 23 years old.

Reinforcement in place of Demko

The Vancouver Canucks announced Friday that center Elias Pettersson has been placed on injured reserve.

The personnel movement is, however, retroactive to December 23, so the Swede’s absence could prove to be short-lived.

After their Friday night duel against the Nashville Predators, the Canucks will return to action on Monday, visiting the Montreal Canadiens.

Pettersson, whose name has appeared daily in trade rumors for several weeks, has missed Vancouver’s last three games.

He has 28 points on his record, including ten goals, in 34 games this season.

Furthermore, the injury suffered by goaltender Thatcher Demko seems serious enough for the Canucks to recall a replacement.

The team said it had added goaltender Arturs Silovs from the Abbotsford Canucks in the American League to its roster. The latter will therefore not be in the match against the Rocket in the evening.

Demko left Thursday’s game against the Seattle Kraken. He only has seven games under his belt this season, returning from an injury suffered in the playoffs last spring. He has a goals against average of 3.34 and an efficiency rate of .881.

For his part, Silovs has allowed an average of 4.11 goals in seven starts this season with Vancouver.

New deal for Mark Kastelic

Center Mark Kastelic has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Boston Bruins.

He will receive an annual salary of $1,567,000.

Kastelic, 25, played 183 career games in the NHL with the Bruins, but mostly with the Ottawa Senators. He was the author of 18 goals and 18 assists.

He moved to the Bruins along with Joonas Korpisalo and a first-round pick for goaltender Linus Ullmark last March.

A fine for acting

New Jersey Devils defenseman Dougie Hamilton is a bad actor and it will cost him $2,000.

The National Hockey League imposed this fine on Friday for having exaggerated a gesture to attract attention in order to penalize an opponent during the game last December 23 against the New York Rangers.

The 31-year-old Torontonian had already received a warning after a match against the Edmonton Oilers on November 4. If he repeats the offense, the fine will be increased by $1,000 and so on for each of the following sanctions.

Hamilton and Rangers forward Brett Berard received minor penalties on the play in question.

Hamilton scored five goals and had 20 assists in 41 games with the Devils, his fourth season in New Jersey and his 13th in the NHL.

A reminder for Lagesson

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled defenseman William Lagesson from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Lagesson played two games with the Wings this season and did not record a point.

The one who collected an assist in three games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2021-2022, totals eleven assists in 111 career NHL games.

The former fourth-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2014, also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Anaheim Ducks.
