The year 2025 will be full of anniversaries within the British royal family. Several “round” birthdays will be celebrated throughout the year, starting in January with the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Michael of Kent.

The Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke of Kent, Princess Michael of Kent and Princess Charlotte of Wales will celebrate a symbolic birthday in 2025
Starting in January, the British royal family will be celebrating with two important birthdays. The first anniversary will be celebrated on January 15, 2025. Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, known as Princess Michael of Kent since her marriage to the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, will celebrate her 80th birthday on that day. The older brother of Prince Michael of Kent will celebrate his 90th birthday later this year, on October 9, 2025. The Duke of Kent, who still officially works for the royal family, has greatly reduced his activities since the death of his cousin, Queen Elizabeth II.
On January 20, 1965, Sophie Rhys-Jones was born. Sophie married Prince Edward, last child of Queen Elizabeth II, in 1999. First known as the Countess of Wessex from her marriage, Sophie is now known as the Duchess of Edinburgh. In 2023, shortly before his coronation, King Charles III granted the title Duke of Edinburgh to his brother, a title long worn by their father. On January 20, 2025, the Duchess of Edinburgh will celebrate her 60th birthday.

On March 1, Bagshot Park will be celebrating the 70th birthday of Sir Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne’s husband. Very discreet, Sir Timothy Laurence’s birthday will certainly not cause any stir. One month later, in another style, on April 1, it will be exactly 5 years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were stripped of their status as active members of the royal family by Queen Elizabeth II. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had left the United Kingdom a few months earlier and moved to Canada, before settling permanently in California. Queen Elizabeth II first gave Harry and Meghan time to reflect and adapt before setting their last day as working members of the royal family for March 31, 2020.
On May 2, 2025, it will be the heir family who, it is hoped, will share a new photo of Princess Charlotte of Wales, on the occasion of her 10th birthday. Princess Charlotte is the older sister of Prince George, who has already passed the first ten in 2023. Their little brother, Prince Louis, will still have to wait until 2028 to pass this milestone.

Several important wedding anniversaries in 2025
On April 9, King Charles III and Queen Camilla will celebrate their porcelain wedding anniversary, their 20th wedding anniversary. The wedding of Charles and Camilla had been celebrated without the usual pomp of royal weddings. This will be the first symbolic wedding anniversary that Charles and Camilla will celebrate as sovereigns.
During the summer, Princess Beatrice, eldest daughter of the Duke of York, will celebrate her wooden wedding. On July 17, 2020, Buckingham Palace shared a surprise photo to announce that Princess Beatrice had just married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi that day, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Beatrice’s wedding was originally scheduled to take place in the spring and was supposed to be the big royal wedding of the year. This was canceled due to the pandemic and the new date had not been communicated. Beatrice and Edoardo became the parents of little Sienna in 2021. Princess Beatrice is currently pregnant with her second child, whose birth is expected in spring 2025.
More distant members of the royal family will also celebrate a birthday, including Lady Amelia Windsor who will turn 30 on August 24. Lady Amelia is a granddaughter of the Duke of Kent. His cousin, Flora Ogilvy, will celebrate her 5th wedding anniversary with Timothy Vesterberg on September 26. Flora is the granddaughter of Princess Alexandra of Kent, sister of the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent. Amelia is 43rd in line to the throne and Flora is 60th.
Finally, November 20, 2025 will be the centenary of the death of Queen Alexandra. Princess Alexandra, daughter of the future King Christian IX of Denmark, was born on December 1, 1844 in Copenhagen. In 1863, she married Queen Victoria’s heir, the future King Edward VII. King Edward VII died in 1910. Alexandra would live for another 15 years. Queen Mother Alexandra died on November 20, 1925 at age 80, during the reign of her son, King George V. Alexandra is the great-great-grandmother of King Charles III.
