Often vilified on the issue of traffic jams, the municipality of Besançon – sorry, the municipal majority – counterattacks in an unexpected form, with the publication on its YouTube channel of a clip that is as aesthetic as it is confusing. “Besançon pleases and attracts, and that’s good news,” says Anne Vignot’s team in the text that accompanies this three-minute video. On the screen, drone images follow one another, filming from the sky endless traffic jams at the entrances to the city. Long lines of cars to congratulate the dynamism of the city, we had to think about it.
Political subtitles
“These images speak for themselves,” says the associated commentary. But the City prefers to specify what it sees there: “Besançon is attractive, many vehicles arrive every day to work, relax, educate themselves, make purchases from our merchants… These automobile flows demonstrate that the living area of Besançon is important, and we need to organize travel, to understand it.” A plea for carrying out a “broader traffic analysis”, recently requested from state services.
Political subtitles? The traffic jams are not due to municipal politics. If they want to preserve their health in 2025, we advise Anne Vignot's detractors not to read the rest of this publication posted online on December 31, which sings the praises of the measures developed by the majority: “large number” of parking spaces, park and ride, cycle paths “which free up space on the roads”… Foie gras, bubbles and a ladle of Coué method to end the year well.
