the essential
A 40-year-old woman, in whom doctors discovered a tumor in her appendix in 2023, underwent surgery and had eight organs removed so she could survive against cancer. Now saved, she was able to return to work.
For Briton Faye Louise, it all started with some pain. No doubt painful periods had she thought in 2023. As the problem persisted, her doctor prescribed an ultrasound which revealed the presence of an ovarian cyst. Removal of the appendix, as required by protocol, reveals the accumulation of a gelatinous substance in his abdomen, a rare disease called pseudomyxoma peritonei.
The tumor ruptures, releasing cancer cells throughout his body. Cancer is endangering the life of the forty-year-old more than ever. With the doctors’ agreement, Faye Louise underwent new operations. To enable him to survive, the decision was made to remove eight non-vital organs.
Faye Louise returns to the operating room for a full day to have her spleen, gallbladder, appendix, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, navel, greater and lesser omentum and part of her removed. his liver. At the same time, she suffered scratching of her diaphragm and pelvis.
Control exams every year
“Some days I have been in the depths of despair, but most of the time I have more positive days,” the 40-year-old tells BBC Radio Sussex. Every year in November, she will have to do follow-up examinations. “Waiting for results will unfortunately be the key to the success or failure of each Christmas for me. But you have to keep moving forward and never give up.” She says: “Being told there was no evidence of illness was the best Christmas present I could have received.” The Briton had even thought about preparing for her funeral.
She returned to her work
Now recovered, Faye Louise, who is a former model, has returned to her job as a flight dispatcher at Gatwick Airport. “The work is very physical, but I love aviation and I’m happy to be back in this role.” She also joined as a fundraising volunteer for Cancer Research UK.
