In 2024, the city of Paris will experience 1,509 hours of sunshine, a deficit of 200 hours compared to normal.
“I hope the sun comes back.” In Paris, the year 2024 was particularly marked by the absence of sunshine. 1,509 hours of sunshine were recorded over the year, the lowest total since 1991.
“A deficit of 200 hours compared to normal,” indicates Météo-France. The consequences on morale, for certain residents, are being felt.
A passerby thus believes that the weather this year was “gray”, and “morale did not follow” to get better. “It weighs on morale. I feel, among my friends, fairly frequent little depressions. We try to do what we can,” continues another resident.
Less than 12 hours of sunshine in a month and a half
From November to mid-December, less than 12 hours of sunshine were recorded. “I just spent a week in the South, I was happy, I think that within a week I would be less happy because of the gray weather,” said a resident.
During the first week of NovemberParis was only allowed 8h27 of sunshine, according to a weather report from the Paris-Montsouris station. A drop of 88%, compared to seasonal norms calculated over a period from 1991 to 2020.
“It was a year that was not easy, we had a summer that was very, very short, even non-existent. If we could wish ourselves a little sunshine for next year, that would be very cool.”
At the same time, the city experienced its wettest year on record in 2024. And 2025 is not starting under the sign of the sun either: Île-de-France was placed on yellow alert for “strong winds” this Thursday, January 2.
