Nuno Mendes close to leaving Saint-Germain

The adventure between Paris Saint-Germain and Nuno Mendes could soon end.

For several seasons, Paris Saint-Germain transfer windows are often criticized. For many, PSG is not investing like a football giant or recruiting talented players on the downward slope. The emblematic case is the transfer window 2021. That summer, Paris Saint-Germain struck hard by recruiting Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos, Nuno Mendes, and above all, Lionel Messi. On paper, this recruitment seemed to be a godsend for the Parisian club to take a step forward. Yet, only one player really lived up to expectations that season: Nuno Mendes.

Arrived from SportingNuno Mendes was a young Portuguese nugget. The left side quickly established as an indisputable holder in the making. Despite his repeated minor injuries, the Portuguese is considered the future of the club. However, the adventure could take END. Indeed, PSG and Nuno Mendes' agents have been in negotiations for several weeks for a contract extension, but the latest news is worrying. According to RMC Sportcontacts between PSG and representatives of Nuno Mendes regarding his new contract are completely broken.

An important departure?

Aged 22, Nuno Mendes is arguably one of the most promising players in his position. At Paris Saint-Germain, he is an indisputable starter in Luis Enrique's playing system. Under Pochettino, Galtier and now Enrique, he has always been unanimous. However, his future at Paris Saint-Germain is becoming more and more uncertain.

Under contract until 2026, a departure of the Portuguese seems more and more likely. In the event of non-extension, Nuno Mendes could wait until next season to leave the French capital freely. The motivations of his agents to break off discussions could be linked to the salary offered. Indeed, according to Capology, Nuno Mendes is currently PSG's 22nd highest paid player, with an annual salary of €1.4 million. His agents want to renegotiate so that he moves up the salary hierarchy, which Paris Saint-Germain does not like. Many clubs including Manchester United are following the matter very closely.
