She is already almost ten years old. On the Causse d’Auge, at century (Lozere), we find a unique national school in France. It was highlighted recently during the laying of the first stone of the future Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI).
It is about the National Hemp School. A project born in 2015 from the will of a handful of professionals believing in the various virtues of this material which is still little used in construction.
Ultra fire and heat resistant
However, it has some impressive features. In particular its resistance to fire. From time to time, the school also organizes demonstrations in this area by placing a hemp concrete wall (made up of 30 cm of hemp lime insulation) between a boiler burner and a thermal camera. The surface temperature on the burner side rises at 800°C. On the other side of the wall, after two hours of heating, we went from 18 to… 30°C only!
Not to mention that hemp produces relatively little smoke and no flaming debris according to its promoters.
Interns from abroad
The school founded and directed by Rémy Chorda offers training modules intended for construction professionals which take place over a few days. And which even attract interns from other countries.
