Formula 1 | Marcus Ericsson will give his opinion on the choice of the Cadillac simulator

Former driver and Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson has revealed how he is playing a role in the early stages of the Cadillac F1 project.

Cadillac’s planned arrival in Formula 1 next season comes after more than a year of back-and-forth between Liberty Media and a team that started life as Andretti F1.

The arrival of American car giant General Motors (GM) through a Cadillac F1 team has been given the green light for F1 2026, with the former Andretti team now working under the new name in preparation for an entry next season.

One of the men who will contribute to this effort is former Caterham and Sauber F1 driver Marcus Ericsson, with the 2022 Indy 500 winner revealing how he was tasked with evaluating the team’s simulators.

The Swedish driver, who races for Andretti Global in IndyCar, said he was given the unusual assignment.

“My employer, Andretti, asked me to go to England to test different simulators.”

“I will provide them with feedback so they can choose the right model for the entire organization, including Formula 1, IndyCar and sports cars.”

Ericsson said the visits are likely to be made to manufacturers and teams to assess different simulator options, with its previous experience in F1 playing an important role in the critical assessment needed to meet the infrastructure requirements of the equipment.

“Simulators have become an integral part of motorsport, and I have worked to improve my own use over the past winter.”

Ericsson has left F1 since the end of 2018, his involvement in the decision-making process cannot be interpreted as a possible start of a return to F1, he admitted, but the Swedish driver is nevertheless happy to be involved.

“It’s great that they want to use me and my experience to help them make their F1 debut.”
