End clap for 2G in and Mayotte
End clap for 2G in Reunion and Mayotte

In the era of growing digital needs, Réunion-Mayotte continues to play a central role in the evolution of mobile networks on these islands.

Since the introduction of 2G, each technological step, from 3G to 4G, and today 5G, has enabled Orange to effectively meet the expectations of its users. This innovation journey reaches a new decisive stage: the end of 2G, scheduled for December 31, 2024. In the Antilles-Guyana this will be scheduled for December 31, 2025.

In 2022, Orange announced its intention to simplify and modernize its infrastructures by focusing on the most recent technologies. The reasons for this choice are multiple:

  • Performance accrue : 4G and 5G networks offer faster connectivity and better management of growing volumes of data.
  • Energy efficiency : These technologies consume less energy, contributing to more sustainable operation.
  • Enhanced security : 4G and 5G are equipped with advanced protections against cyber threats.
  • Frequency optimization : The reuse of 2G and, ultimately, 3G bands will make it possible to improve the quality of the 4G/5G network across the entire territory.

Today, Orange Réunion can boast of impressive coverage:

  • 99.9% of the population benefits from 4G.
  • More than 80% of residents already have access to 5G.

This transition is accompanied by a constant strengthening of infrastructure to guarantee stable and rapid connectivity in the most requested areas.

To continue to benefit from the Orange network after December 31, 2024, customers must use a mobile compatible with at least 3G. Those who still have 2G-only devices are encouraged to update their equipment.

Orange offers several solutions to facilitate this transition:

  • Accessible equipment : A range of 4G and 5G compatible phones is available in Orange stores.
  • Responsible consumption : Customers can recycle their old phones or opt for refurbished devices.
  • Personalized support : Orange advisors, in store or via customer service (456), are available to check device compatibility and guide users in their choice.

By favoring 4G or even 5G, Orange Réunion-Mayotte ensures that it offers its customers an efficient, sustainable network ready to respond to the digital uses of tomorrow. This approach is also part of a more ecological vision, aligned with current environmental issues.

With Orange Réunion-Mayotte, innovation and connectivity come together to prepare the digital future of the island, while supporting responsible practices.
