During the night of Saturday December 28 to Sunday December 29, the number of PM 10 particles (particles with a diameter less than 10µm) increased significantly in Occitanie, and especially in Tarn-et-Garonne. This increase was made possible by weather conditions, namely weak wind and low temperature, thus limiting “the dispersion of suspended particles emitted into the air, particularly by heating appliances”. In view of the pollution peak measured, Atmo Occitanie has launched its information and recommendations procedure in Tarn-et-Garonne.
What to do in the event of an episode of air pollution?
The air quality observatory in Occitanie presents several behavioral and health recommendations in the event of deterioration in air quality. Vulnerable people (such as pregnant women, infants or people over 65 years old) and sensitive people (such as diabetics or immunocompromised people) are therefore advised to “limit travel on major roads and their surroundings” , and to “limit intense physical and sporting activities (including competitions), both outdoors and indoors”.
A return (almost) to normal expected today
Still according to Atmo Occitanie, “PM 10 levels in the Tarn-et-Garonne department will remain high but should a priori remain below the information and recommendation threshold”. According to the observatory's website, air quality will still be poor on Monday, December 30, in several departments in the region.
