Public holidays can be off or worked and paid under conditions which vary depending on the days concerned (May 1 or other). In certain cases, public holidays also allow you to benefit from a bridge.
1ᵉʳ May
May 1 is the only mandatory non-working day for all employees, work being scheduled for that day only in certain establishments and services (hospitals, public transport, etc.) where work cannot be interrupted due to the nature of their activity.
Other holidays
Other public holidays may exist in a region, a locality or in certain sectors of activity. This is the case, for example, of Alsace and Moselle which also benefit from Good Friday and December 26.
Bridges
The employer can also grant employees a break, in particular between one or two days of weekly rest and a public holiday. Hours lost due to the bridge can be recovered, with employees required to work the lost working hours another day.
